Pride of Success

"Please, slow down," she beseeched her classmates, as they took off running what seemed like miles ahead of her. What will happen if I don't make it to the finish line? She pondered, filled with consternation. For if she delayed, certain privileges would be taken away. She felt her heart beat faster and faster out of her chest, as sweat ran down her face.

"Hurry up!" Her
haughty friends called back at her. "We're too good to come in last." She thought about how gratifying it would be to feel the rapture of success, stopping to prostrate on the ground wouldn't get her anywhere, it was a simple whim.

She got all her energy together and forced her two feet to get her there. She caught speed and got ahead. Her pulse accelerated, and her legs ached, but she went on and on. Passing the other contestants, forgetting worries and fears. I will go on. As soon as she knew it, she herd the revelry of the crowd, and the pride of success.
